House sitting around the world
Why not dog, cat or house sit?
It is great to care for animals and live in a home. I left the UK back in October 2016 in search of a new life. Although I feel very much at home in Bali, it’s where I have been spending most of my time, I must say it’s really nice to experience a real home environment and be part of a wider community of people. Doing a bit of housesitting you get to meet new people, and you don’t have to feel like you are a perennial tourist. Being a dog walker or caring for a cat is so much fun!
Some of my housesitting has come through friends, but I think it’s important to join a website too, if you really want to give it a go, and why not try house sitting abroad and discover somewhere new. Joining a site gives you more credibility and for me came two sitting places in Sydney, last year. One in Narrabeen caring for Milo a 2 year old Staffordshire bull terrier and another looking after a beautiful ginger cat called Lily in Stratfield.
“I get so much out of caring for people’s pets, it’s pure joy.”
Through friends of friends, I have been asked me to care for their pets and so I spent some time in Manly too, caring for a really cute little dog called Pepper. Next month I will be looking after a very cute black Poodle puppy called Boo in Bali, where I am currently living and I can’t wait!
Deciding if the cat/dog sit position is right for me is all about synchronicity. When the timing is right, positions seem to appear and you just need to do a bit of work online, but options come along ultimately they have all worked out well for me.
People will often ask you back to care again for their pet again. When I pop back to Sydney next month and I will be dog sitting cute little Pepper again, and it will be fun I am sure. Also, now a familiar place so it makes it even easier and quicker to settle back into house sitting again.
It’s great to spend time with animals, it’s good for everyone to get some oxytocin that feel good chemical that you receive whilst caring for the animals. There are so many benefits in caring for animals, you get to live like local, and you can feel what it would be like to live in different places around the world.
I am not interested in ‘doing places’ but experiencing what happens on my trips, who I meet and just working on being in the ‘now moment’, instead of worrying what my future may hold. It’s a welcome break from normal life. I also get to meet some really lovely people and get to know the individual animals along the way which is what I love most of all. They become my temporary family and that really makes me feel happy.
So it’s a win win situation all around. I get to stay on lovely house, meet interesting people and get to care for their pets.
Thank you ??
