The Power of Prayer
What is Prayer? Why Pray?
Here in Bali there is a strong Hindu tradition, although the majority of neighbouring islands are mainly Muslim. Everyday you see the offerings people place and say a prayer to the gods on the street, in Temples and all around the island.
A prayer can be conversation with god or your higher self whatever we you wish to call this. A spirit maybe. We can pray to our guides or Angels for help. We can pray to our ancestors – in times of need we remember to pray, in everyday we often forget.
Prayer is an everyday occurrence in Ubud, you see people praying and making offerings to the Gods all the time here. So it’s a personal reminder to go inside and pray not just for yourself, but for your family, friends and the world in general. As a whole we are going through such times of change on many level, you can gain clarity and strength through prayer/and or meditation.
A connection with our higher self or god we may believe in. It doesn’t necessarily need to be connected to a religion though. It can be a conversation with your higher self. Expressing gratitude, asking for help, or silently creating a space within for contemplation. It’s a powerful act that creates more harmony in your life.
Remember to go inside and take a few minutes to be grateful for all we have. We can ask for guidance, forgiveness and gratitude. It can help us to lead a life with more compassion and empathy for others, including ourselves.
Meditation ould be called a prayer, as we are connecting with our higher self and going within. I enjoy using my Mala beads and saying a mantra, it’s a quick and simple way to connect and you can do it anywhere. Wherever you are you can do this in your head, sitting on a bus, waiting for something. Great for when you feel inpatient, just say a mantra and time will fly by and you will create stillness within. Wearing a mala is a reminder to stay present and not get wrapped up in the drama of life’s little episodes that in the scheme of things don’t really matter. By slowing down your inner mindless chatter you create more peace and harmony in the mind, body and soul. If you don’t like to pray, just listen to a mantra on You tube. I love this one below, you can feel the peace and harmony through the music which in turn calms the mind.
