Six-Week Journaling Course: Unlocking Self-Discovery Through Writing

Why Journal? Discover your creativity through journaling. When we journal we can access information and guidance that we never knew we had. It's also a great tool for personal development. When I went through a period of massive change, journaling saved me in more ways I can discuss here. It also supported me in writing my book I Am Alice Break Up, Breakdown, Breakthrough.

Course Overview:

This course is designed to introduce participants to the practice of journaling as a tool for self-reflection, emotional expression, and personal growth. Each week will focus on different themes and techniques, encouraging participants to explore their thoughts and feelings through writing.

 Week 1: Introduction to Journaling

 Objectives:

  - Understand the benefits of journaling.

  - Establish personal journaling goals.

    Activities:

  - Discussion on different types of journaling (reflective, gratitude, bullet journaling).

  - Writing prompt: “What do I hope to gain from journaling?”

  - Homework: Start a journal; write a letter to your future self.

 

 Week 2: Mindfulness and Reflection

    Objectives:

  - Learn to incorporate mindfulness into journaling.


    Activities:

  - Guided mindfulness meditation.

  - Writing prompt: “What am I feeling right now, and why?”

  - Homework: Practice a mindful journaling session focused on the present moment.

  - Channeling and music to write to.

 

 Week 3: Gratitude and Positivity

    Objectives:

  - Explore the power of gratitude in journaling.

    Activities:

  - Group discussion on gratitude and its effects on well-being.

  - Writing prompt: “List three things I am grateful for today and why.”

  - Homework: Create a weekly gratitude log.

 

 Week 4: Exploring Emotions

     Objectives:

  - Identify and articulate personal emotions through writing.

    Activities:

  - Discussion on the importance of emotional awareness.

  - Writing prompt: “Write about a recent emotional experience.”

  - Homework: Choose an emotion to explore deeply in your next journal entry.

 

 Week 5: Setting Goals and Intentions

  Objectives:

  - Learn to set achievable goals and intentions through journaling.

  Activities:

  - Discussion on SMART goals and intentions.

  - Writing prompt: “What are my goals for the next month/year?”

  - Homework: Write an action plan for one of your goals.

 

 Week 6: Reflection and Future Directions

   Objectives:

  - Reflect on the journaling journey and plan for continued practice.

   Activities:

  - Group sharing of insights gained during the course.

  - Writing prompt: “What have I learned about myself through journaling?”

  - Homework: Create a journaling plan to continue your practice beyond the course
